Saudi Arabia report first case of Omicron variant

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday confirmed that a case of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected.

According to the Arab media report, the Saudi ministry of health said that a passenger coming from North Africa has tested positive for omicron. The patient has been quarantined.

The earliest cases of Omicron were found in South Africa last week.

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday reported 32 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. In total, the kingdom has reported about 550,000 cases and over 8,800 deaths since the pandemic began in early 2020.
